CBRN event in Arizona, Phoenix area, United States of America on Thu 13th September 2012
13th September 2012
Between 9 PM on September 12, 2012 and 6 AM September 13, 2012, a portable gauge was stolen from the back of an employee's truck. The truck was parked outside the employee's home. Locked in a 16-gauge steel box and bolted to the bed of the truck, the device contained 10 mCi CS137 and 44 mCi AM241. During an inspection of a scrap metal shipment that returned to Glendale, AZ from California in early February, the Arizona Radiation Regulatory Agency found a source rod from a moisture/density gauge. The source contained approximately 10 mCi CS137. Based on the ID numbers on the source rod, the agency was able to confirm that the isotope was part of the Humboldt device. No other isotope was present.
