On September 8, 2017, Kursk Customs authorities reported that the radiation detector was set off while checking the passengers of a bus. The passenger stated that she was carrying an old aviation watch which she had declared. Customs officers checked the watch using a portable universal radiometer and determined that the level of radiation was 1.23 µSv/h, over four times the safe dose for a person. The import of these watches into Russia is banded. The Ukrainian woman with a radioactive watch was sent home.
