On May 18, 2015 a resident of Odessa found five containers bearing the radioactive symbol in her apartment. She immediately called for help. Representatives from the radiation-chemical and bacteriological protection rescue special forces of the Emergency State Services of Ukraine came to perform measurements with a dosimeter. Radiation levels around the containers were found to be higher than normal. They identified 3 sources of ionizing radiation and 2 lamps with radioactive areas in the apartment. Representatives from the Odessa inter-regional special plant "Radon" were also called in, and they took the objects in question for further inspection.
