On August 25, 2014, customs officials in Kazakhstan who were inspecting a freight train en route from Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan at the "Saryagash" post found a metal object with a diameter of 20 mm and a height of 10-12 cm that they determined to be a CS137 source. The search for the object commenced when inspectors registered radioactivity 9 times higher than the background radiation. Law enforcement officers are working to determine who needed the radioactive material and why.
