CBRN event in Tokyo, Chiyoda area, Japan on Wed 22nd April 2015
22nd April 2015
Aides to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe discovered a drone carrying radioactive material on the roof atop the PM's office and residence, which is believed to have landed on April 22, 2015. The Phantom model drone carried a bottle of sand and radioactive CS137 isotope, allegedly obtained from irradiated materials in Fukushima Prefecture. Authorities arrested 40 year-old Yasuo Yamamoto, a former member of the state Self-Defense Force, who turned himself in and confessed to flying the drone tin protest to Abe's proposed restart of Japan's currently shutdown nuclear reactors. Yamamoto turned himself in on April 24, and he reportedly sent the drone on April 9, 2015. This arrest warrant is for suspicion of illegal modification of drone warning flares, as opposed to the first, for forcible obstruction of business and government operations.
