CBRN event in Shandong, Huangdao area, China on Tue 27th June 2017

On June 27, 2017, the Shandong Inspection and Quarantine Bureau in Qingdao held a news briefing that recently, in Huangdao port, 1 batch of imported copper exceeds the standard radioactive detection. The shipment comes from the United Arab Emirates, packed in 6 containers, weighing 120.85 tons, valued at over $500,000. Inspection and quarantine personnel detected that one of the containers’ radiation exposure dose rate was 3.25 µGy/h, more than 30 times of natural value. The Inspection and Quarantine Bureau decided that the goods are not up to standard in environmental protection, and shall be handed over to the Customs for refund. The radionuclide detected in this case was Ra-226.
