On the morning of May 19, 2015, a plastic package containing radioactive material was stolen near the city of Carazinho, Brazil. The Molybdenum source, used for diagnosis in nuclear medicine, is from the Institute of Energy and Nuclear Research (IPEN), and was bound for the Hospital Association of Charity Ijui when the theft occurred. The National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN) and the respective authorities are currently investigating the incident.
