During a regular garbage and waste collection routine, radioactive material was found in Appiano, Italy. Upon further examination by a former head of nuclear medicine, RA226 was detected in the unidentified material. The radiation detection may have been set off by the presence of smoke detectors and lightning rods that were sent off for disposal by the city of Appiano a week earlier.
