CBRN event in Nord-Pas-de-Calais, Calais area, France on Tue 19th May 2015
19th May 2015
A 1.6 kg package containing radioactive material was detected by a French customs in Calais, while in transit to England. The parcel, along with the trailer it was traveling in, was sent back to Cologne, Germany, where the authorities examined the packet and confirmed the elevated radiation readings. The driver of the vehicle where the material was being transported in was not aware of any hazardous material onboard, and documentation provided stated "no dangerous substances" were inside the parcel. It is suspected that the sender of the packet is a 'minerals dealer' who apparently deals with uranium minerals.
