SAA event in Dominican Republic on Mon 1st July 2024

Montecristi.- A Haitian immigrant died from a gunshot wound inflicted by a member of the Dominican Republic Army, who was also injured, during a confrontation that occurred in the community of Bohío Viejo, Guayubín municipality, in this province.

The victim was identified as Haitian immigrant Noel Estive, 26, who, according to the medical certificate, received a gunshot wound to the right thigh.

In the same incident, Dominican Army (ERD) corporal Maneuris Ramos Ramírez was injured and admitted to the Padre Fantino hospital in Montecristi, with stab wounds to the abdomen.

According to reports, the incident occurred when Corporal Ramos Ramírez, a member of the 15th Infantry Company of the ERD, was part of a patrol that tried to stop a motorcyclist who was transporting two immigrants. The latter attacked the soldier.

The military action was in response to the aggression received, at the time when the immigrants were being transported on a Gato brand motorcycle, model Z-3000, green in color, driven by Sonny Sosa, who was arrested. The second passenger managed to escape.

The motorcycle driver is being held at the ERD headquarters in Bohío Viejo for the corresponding purposes, while the case is being investigated.
