During a routine test of the control logic in the emergency core cooling system, spurious signals caused the opening of the safety steam valves.
The event was not safety-related as far as the plant is concerned; however, the detonation produced by the valves when discharging the steam into the atmosphere caused restlessness among the tourists in the neighbouring area, who thought there had been an accident at the plant.
The press, which was sensitized by previous information on leaks from pressure tubes during the last schedule shutdown at Embalse, referred to this event with much emphasis.
Enclosed is a newspapaer clipping where "an explosion' is mentioned.
