On 27 May 2024, in the rural area of El Plateado corregimiento (Cauca), a local councilor from the Liberal Party (PLC) was severely injured after stepping on a landmine planted by suspected members of the Carlos Patino FARC dissident group in the El Diamante vereda. The victim was trying to connect the water supply for the residents of the area when he accidentally activated the device. The victim had to have a leg amputated due to the injuries caused by the explosion. There were no fatalities.
