On 29 May 2024, Houthi forces claimed a drone and ballistic missile attack targeting the Maersk Hartford container ship (IMO: 9333008) in the Arabian Sea (coded to West Arabian Sea) claiming US affiliation of the ship and affiliation with companies in violation of the Houthi ban to call at Israeli ports. There were no fatalities or injuries as the drones and missiles likely impacted the water. The attack was not confirmed by other sources with the company owning the ship noting that the ship was not the subject of an attack. Houthi forces claimed the attack on 29 May without specifying the date of the attack in a statement covering 27 - 29 May. The ship departed Oman on 29 May for the UAE sailing through the Arabian Sea. The ship was US-flagged, and owned, operated, and managed by US-based companies.
