On 29 November 2020, a resident ignited a liquefied petroleum gas canister in 3 Dongjiadu, Huangpu district (Shanghai) (coded as Shanghai-Huangpu), killing himself and causing severe burns to several demolition workers. It was an act of defiance against a forced land seizure and eviction operation implemented by authorities two decades ago, that escalated when the resident's son was kidnapped on the same morning.
