A door to a residential building in Västergård in Södertälje has been shot at. A police operation is underway in search of the suspected shooter.

The alarm about the shooting came in on Wednesday afternoon.

- "A residential building has been shot at and there were people in the home, but at present there is no information that anyone has been physically injured," says Stockholm police spokesperson Nadya Norton.

Several police patrols are on the scene and a police helicopter is circulating in the area. The operation is underway in Västergård in Södertälje, near the Saltskog area.

- "We are looking for the person or persons who did it, but we are also working on securing traces and gathering as much information as we can," says Nadya Norton.

A preliminary investigation into attempted murder and serious firearms offences has been initiated.

Neighbour: "Heard three or four shots"

Mahyar lives in the neighbourhood and had just arrived outside her door with her pram when she heard three or four shots.

- "I get scared, I have two children and one of them is out cycling in the area sometimes," she says.
