A man in his 20s has been shot dead in Salem southwest of Stockholm on Monday evening. Three people have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the fatal shooting.

At 10:42 p.m. on Monday evening, there was an alarm about loud explosions in a wooded area in Salem. One person was later found injured in the area and the police confirmed just before midnight that it was a shooting.

During the night, a large police operation with several patrols and a police helicopter took place at the scene.

Later, the police announced that a man in his 20s died from his injuries. A preliminary investigation into murder has been opened.

According to prosecutor Alexandra Bittner, three people were arrested on Tuesday morning, but at the moment she cannot go into what they are suspected of.

Early Tuesday morning, the police were still at the scene and are continuing the investigation.

A woman SVT meets in the nature area on Tuesday morning lives nearby. She says that at the time of the shooting, she was lying in her bed and heard what she perceived as four shots being fired.

- It feels uncomfortable, this is a very quiet area with a lot of families with children.
