IED event in County Louth, Ravensdale area, Ireland on Sun 9th June 2024

A man has been arrested in Co Fermanagh by the PSNI counter-terrorism unit following the discovery of a suspected improvised explosive device in Co Louth.

Searches were carried out by gardaí in the Ravensdale area in the early hours of this morning following reports of suspicious activity.

A device discovered during the search was removed and is being examined by the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit.

A cordon around the search area remains in place and local traffic diversions are in place.

It is understood the cross border policing operation was targeting dissident republicans.

A 42-year-old man was arrested following a search of a property in the Letterbreen area of Co Fermanagh.

He is currently being questioned at the serious crime suite at Musgrave Police Station in Belfast city centre.

A vehicle and other items were also seized from the property and have been removed for further forensic examination.

Another search was carried out in the Enniskillen area where a second vehicle was seized, and a further search was conducted at a property in the Garrison area.

Detective Chief Inspector Hamlin from the PSNI's terrorism unit added: "Our investigation is continuing and we will be providing full support to An Garda Síochána as enquiries continue."
