Bomb found in MSV Arena: Unexploded bomb under the grass

Strange bomb discovery in Duisburg: In the MSV Duisburg stadium, a World War II bomb had apparently been lying under the pitch for decades! This was discovered during construction work in the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena: An English 500 kg bomb with an impact fuse was discovered beneath the grass on Tuesday morning.

During the off-season, Duisburger Stadionmanagement GmbH is having the defective drainage system in the stadium of the third division relegated team replaced. The unexploded bomb was discovered during exploratory work.

11.40 a.m.: According to the city of Duisburg, the bomb defusal is "scheduled for around 1 p.m." The barriers around the site where the bomb was found are to take effect from 12.30 p.m.

The city further reports: "In the evacuation zone (300 meters from the site), a total of eight people are affected, as well as the youth hostel.

The Citizens' and Public Order Office and the police are cordoning off the area. Information is being provided on site via loudspeaker announcements. The city of Duisburg has set up a lounge for citizens and youth hostel guests in the German Canoe Association's Federal Training Center at Kruppstrasse 30a in Neudorf-Süd (Regattabahn). The room will be open from 12 noon.

There will be traffic disruptions around the site and the barriers. The Kalkweg and Kruppstrasse in the area of ​​the stadium are among those affected. Drivers who are familiar with the area are asked to avoid the area. The A 59 motorway and the Duisburg-Düsseldorf railway line are not affected.
