Missile event in Yemen on Wed 22nd May 2024
22nd May 2024
Around 22 May 2024 (as reported), Houthi forces claimed a ballistic missile attack targeting the MSC Alexandra container ship (IMO: 9461374) in the Arabian Sea (coded to West Arabian Sea) claiming Israeli affiliation of the ship. There were no fatalities or injuries as the missiles likely impacted the water. The attack was not confirmed by other sources. Houthi forces have been labeling MSC ships as 'Israeli' possibly because of MSC's trade relations with Israeli shipping company ZIM or because of the dual Swiss-Israeli citizenship of one of MSC's co-founder and co-owner. Houthi forces claimed the attack on 24 May without specifying the date of the attack although it noted that it took place before an attack at 7:30 am Sanaa time on 23 May. The MSC Alexandra was sailing in the Arabian Sea between 22 and 23 May.
