A massive mass shooting took place in the city of Chicomucelo in the southern Mexico state of Chiapas. 11 people died in this attack on Tuesday.

Let us tell you that this area is known for migrants and drug smuggling. The region has been deeply affected by cartel turf battles in recent months. Indeed, the township and outlying settlement of Morelia is a sparsely populated area near Mexico's border with Guatemala.

On Monday also there was a clash between drug cartels in this area. Violence is escalating in the border region of Chiapas as rival Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation cartels battle for territory. This has led to the displacement of thousands of people as cartels work to control migrant, drug and arms smuggling routes and forcibly recruit local people.
