The theft of radioactive material is under investigation by the Argentine Federal Police through the Directorate of Explosives and Special Risks.
The Radiological and Nuclear Risk Division is in charge of an investigation activated by a complaint from the Tecnonuclear company regarding the theft, committed this Tuesday, May 14 at 6:00 a.m., of a “TYPE A” package with radioactive material.
The theft of the package took place at the door of the company, while they were loading a vehicle to later distribute the shipments.
The radioactive material consists of a source of “Iodine 131” (I-131) used in nuclear medicine, with an activity of 40 mCi at the time of the theft and it is estimated that in contact it would have a radiation dose rate of 800 mSv/h .
