On 21 December 2020, and IED, planted by suspected IS cells in the vehicle of the head of Shiheil local council, exploded in the town of Shiheil in the eastern countryside of Deir-ez-Zor. The explosion caused only material damages. Neither injuries nor fatalities were reported.
