Footballer, 19, is suspected burglar shot dead at Peak District farm
Marcus Smith, 19, has been named as the man who sustained fatal gunshot wounds during an alleged burglary in the Peak District
A footballer has been named and pictured as the suspected burglar shot dead at a farm in the Peak District. Marcus Smith, 19, died after suffering fatal gunshot wounds after the alleged break-in at the property on Eccles Road, Chapel-en-le-Frith.
Derbyshire Police were called to reports of a burglary at the farm at around 1.20am on Wednesday (May 1). At the scene officers found Marcus, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Marcus was named locally as the man who died in the incident, with Chesterfield Coroner's Court also confirming to the Manchester Evening News that the case has been referred to their office. Police have revealed that the man who died was not the owner of the property.
A second man, who is also in his teens, was found with a gunshot wound nearby. He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he was also arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
Police have revealed that a third man, who is in his 50s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and remains in police custody. A fourth man, who is in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary after the vehicle he was travelling in was stopped on the A6 in the afternoon of Wednesday 1 May. He remains in police custody.

We appreciate the impact that an incident like this can have on communities so we are grateful to all those who have helped during these early stages.
