On 20 April 2024, near Gant Gaw Kyun village (Sittwe township, Sittwe district, Rakhine state), the Myanmar military planted remote explosives, which exploded and killed at least 5 locals who were IDPs and injured many around 9 pm. Locals were killed and injured by remote explosives while they were fleeing as the military troops opened fire at them with small arms. DVB reported that at least 5 locals were killed while RFA reported that 2 locals were killed. Khit Thit Media reported that two women in their 60s were killed. Fatalities coded 2 as the lowest estimate.
