Army members who were affected by ammunition explosion in Tumbes die

The Peruvian Army reported the sensitive death of Tco 2 Henry Pacheco Tejada and Tco 3 Gerardo Sauñe Carbonel. Both were seriously injured following an explosion of ammunition in the Rear Admiral Villar area of Tumbes in mid-April.
Pacheco Tejada, 53, was burned to 60 per cent of her body and also suffered the loss of her right eyeball.
For his part, Sauñe Carbonel suffered the amputation of one of his hands and the fingers of the other, and lost the two eyeballs due to the impact of the explosion on his face.
In a statement issued on 18 April, the Army announced an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident, as well as the responsibilities that may correspond.
According to the military institution, the ammunition detonation accident occurred that day at 10:50 a.m. in the Bocapan region, department of Tumbes, in circumstances where the NGO Mines Advisory Group and a technical team of the Army, were destroying the remnants of the ammunition of the San Juan de la Virgen Dust.
