Insecurity: 6 soldiers killed in a terrorist attack in Toulou Damissa (Filingué) Read more: https://pravda-ne.com/niger/2024/04/23/308.html Six (06) soldiers were killed in a new terrorist attack, Sunday, April 21 around 6 p.m. in Touloun Damissa, in the department of Filingué (Tillabéri Region). The attack comes at a time when, despite the intensification of military operations, armed terrorist groups, mainly the Islamic State in the Sahel (IS), continue to carry out targeted attacks against the civilian populations of this tri-border area, forcing several villages to empty themselves of their inhabitants in order to flee the violence. According to security sources, elements of the 42nd Joint Arms Battalion (BIA) operating as part of Operation Almahaw were the target of this attack carried out by armed assailants presumed to be members of the terrorist group EIS. The attack took place on Sunday afternoon around 6 p.m. in Toudoun Damissa, in the department of Filingué (Tillabéri Region). Six (06) soldiers unfortunately fell on the field of honor according to the same sources. The victims were buried this Monday in Niamey in the presence of military authorities, members of their families and their comrade-in-arms. In recent weeks and despite the intensification of military operations, the security situation has started to deteriorate again in this area of the three borders (Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali). In addition to the improvised explosive device (IED) ambushes targeting military convoys, terrorists attack villages in the area where they kill, loot food stores and shops and steal livestock, forcing civilians to flee to escape the violence.
