Three people, including a police officer and his colleague, were killed in an attack by armed men on their home on the night of Wednesday 25 April in the village of Vurusi, in the Bashu chiefdom (Beni territory) in North Kivu.

According to witnesses, the victims were all in the same house. The assailants shot them.

"A commander of the Vurusi police sub-precinct, his elite chief and an ANR agent were found in their house and killed by as yet unidentified armed men. We saw what happened this morning", says Kamala Tsongo, a local civil society reporter.

This is the umpteenth time that security service officials have been killed by armed men in Bashu. In October 2022, an official from the national intelligence agency (ANR) was also shot dead by armed men in the locality of Kahondo, still in the same chiefdom. Mai-Mai militiamen active in the area were suspected.
