Missile
Missile event in Yemen on Fri 5th April 2024
5th April 2024
Around 5 April 2024 (between 3 - 7 April), Houthi forces claimed to have fired ballistic and cruise missiles targeting the MSC Grace F general cargo ship (IMO: 8918057) in the Indian Ocean (coded to West Arabian Sea) claiming Israeli affiliation of the ship and that the ship was headed to Israel. There were no fatalities or injuries as the missiles likely impacted the water. The attack was not confirmed by independent sources. Houthi forces claimed on 7 April to have carried out the attack over the previous 72 hours, with the closest point the MSC Grace F was to Yemen over that period being the port of Mogadishu, Somalia, and data showing the ship sailing from Mogadishu to Mombasa, Kenya, between 3 April and 8 April. The Israeli affiliation and destination of the ship were not verified although the ship could have been targeted due to MSC's trade relations with Israeli shipping companies like ZIM.
