On 2 January 2021, 5-6 Taliban militants including a commander and their shadow administrative chief for Sangin district were killed and 4 including a militants' commander were wounded in an Afghan military forces' airstrike in the limits of Sangin district in Helmand province. AIP reported that the militants' shadow governor for Girishk was also among the fatalities.
