Kachin State According to some local people and sources from the head of prisons, the military has opened fire on protests at the Myitkyina prison in Myitkyina city.
Today On April 18th, at 4:00 p.m., the sounds of collective strike of the prisoners inside the Myitkyina Prison were heard. The voices were too far away to know what they were shouting and protesting about. After that, after the military vehicles entered, local residents said that they heard at least 20 to 50 gunshots fired by the army.
Yangon New Times News Agency asked a source from the Prison Department who said that they had heard that there were protests going on in Myitkyi Myung, but they did not know the exact details of the situation. He confirmed that the shootings had taken place.
"There have been noises of protest since the afternoon at the Myitkyina prison. After that, the army entered and there were 50 gunshots. There are about 100. Soldiers stood guard in the dark and ambulances came and went. Military vehicles. About 5 ambulances are going in and out," said a local resident.
