Grenade event in Ethiopia on Sat 6th April 2024

On 6 April 2024, an armed group (described as an 'extremist group', likely Fano militia based on the reference commonly used by the government) committed a grenade attack in a marketplace in Finote Selam town (West Gojam, Amhara). According to the government officials, the attack was carried out to intimidate people from resuming normal activities. There were no fatalities. At least 27 people were injured, while other reports mentioned 34, mainly women. Security forces warned the residents of the possibility of a grenade attack before the incident happened.
