Missile event in Yemen on Sat 6th April 2024

On 6 April 2024, at around 6:00 pm Sanaa time, Houthi forces fired 2 anti-ship ballistic missiles targeting the Hope Island container ship (IMO: 9263320) in the South Red Sea around 60 nm southwest of Al Hudaydah claiming UK affiliation of the ship. There were no fatalities or injuries as 1 of the missiles impacted the water and the other 1 was intercepted. Houthi forces claimed a missile attack targeting the Hope Island on 7 April, likely referring to events on 6 and 7 April (the ship was targeted in the South Red Sea on 6 April and in the Gulf of Aden on 7 April). A total of 5 missiles targeted the ship. The ship was owned by UK-based shipping company Borealis Maritime at the time of the attack according to TradeWinds and MarineTraffic.
