On 31 March 2024, in Maw Maung Yang village (Hpakant township, Mohnyin district, Kachin state), the Myanmar military stationed at the Hpakant Myoma Strategic outpost fired a heavy weapon, which fell and exploded near a spirit house while locals were celebrating a traditional spiritual ceremony and killed a 70-year-old woman while six locals were injured. They were sent to the Hpakant Hospital to receive treatment.
