Undefined Explosive Device (UED) event in Myanmar on Sun 14th April 2024
14th April 2024
Two small bomb attacks occurred in Chan Aye Thar San Township Court, Mandalay, earlier April 14. According to reports, the explosions targeted the mayor's pavilion during Thingyan festival celebrations that were underway. The exact number of casualties is uncelar, with some reports indicating the blasts left three people dead, while others indicate up to 12 people injured. Following the blasts, authorities enacted increased security measures in Mandalay. Anti-junta guerrilla groups have not claimed responsibility for the attacks. Enhanced security measures will likely continue in the coming days, at least until the end of Thingyan, and may prompt transport and business disruptions. Authorities could conduct random stop checks and vehicle inspections. Additional explosions are likely. Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely in the vicinity immediately after a bombing. Further attacks on non-military locations could prompt businesses to reduce operating hours.
