On Thursday, at least 13 people were killed and others were injured as a result of violent artillery shelling carried out by the Rapid Support Forces on the Al-Jarif area, east of the capital, Khartoum.
Over the past two months, the eastern Nile has remained in a state of cautious calm after the confrontations between the army and the Rapid Support Forces stopped, as the latter controls the largest part of the eastern Nile.
The war between the two powers is about to complete its first year amid an escalation in the scope of military confrontations between the two parties due to their insistence on achieving a sweeping military victory, ignoring international, regional and local calls to stop the fighting and return to the negotiating table.
A circular issued by the Al-Jarif Emergency Room said, “The Hab Al-Naseem neighborhood in the eastern Al-Jarif area was subjected to random artillery shelling, resulting in a number of deaths.”
The Chamber did not accuse any party of being behind the incident, but activists from the region held the Rapid Support Forces, which control most of the eastern Nile, responsible for firing artillery shells, one of which landed in a house where there was a social event, killing at least 13 people and a number of injuries.
A resident of the area, preferring to withhold his name, told Sudan Tribune that the Rapid Support Forces had previously issued directives prohibiting gatherings or holding social events in the neighborhood, and he believed that the random artillery shelling that led to the death of a number of citizens, including women and children, was intended to displace residents. area of their homes.
Most areas of Khartoum have suffered from a complete blackout in communications and Internet services since the beginning of last February, which has exacerbated the living conditions of the population.
