KANNUR: A CPM worker died and three people were injured in an explosion during the process of bomb making in Panur. The incident took place on the terrace of an under-construction house at around 1 am on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Sherin (31) of Katteenttavide in Panur's Kaivelikkal. CPM workers VP Vineesh (36) of Muliyathodil, Vinodan (38) of Chirakkarandimmal in Kunnothuparambil and Ashwanth (Eldho, 25) of Kallayintavide in Parad's Puthoor were injured.

Vineesh, son of a local CPM leader in Panur, is in critical condition. He was admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode. Others are hospitalized at Thalassery Cooperative Hospital. Sherin, who was in a critical condition with both hands injured, was admitted to a Kozhikode hospital from a private hospital in Kannur, but died at 11 am. His face was also seriously injured.

Apart from them, the police received information that around ten people were there at the time of the blast. They are thought to have escaped with minor injuries. The Forensic Department and the Bomb Squad inspected the spot. An unexploded bomb and construction materials were found and defused. The police conducted a massive raid in Panur. Sherin's father is Purushu (late). Mother: Sharada. Brother: Sarath.

Congress workers under the leadership of DCC President Martin George arrived at the place and broke through the police cordon and entered into an altercation. Both the Congress and the BJP accused the CPM of trying to sabotage the elections in Kannur.

Unaware of bomb making, says owner

Manoharan, the owner of the house, said he had no idea about bombs being made in his house, which was under construction. He is staying at a relative's house as housework is going on.
