On 2 April 2024, near Pyar Lay Chaung village (Sittwe township, Sittwe district, Rakhine state), a 20-year-old woman stepped on a landmine on the side of the railroad while walking with her friends at around 12 pm. She sustained severe injuries in one of her legs. Locals believe that the mine was planted by the Myanmar military.
