The governor of the Murmansk region was attacked with a knife. He is in serious condition. The attack on Andrei Chibis took place on the evening of April 4 after his meeting with residents of the city of Apatity. An unknown person wounded the governor in the stomach as he was leaving the building of the Stroitel cultural center. Chibis was hospitalized and operated on. According to the head physician of the Apatity-Kirov hospital, Yuri Shiryaev, Chibis’ condition is serious, but he was “very lucky” because the aorta was not affected. The man who attacked the governor was wounded when detained by the National Guard. Kommersant, citing a source in the Investigative Committee, reported that the attacker was a 42-year-old resident of Apatit, Alexander Bydanov. According to the publication’s source, Bydanov admitted during interrogation that a “voice in his head” told him to commit the attack. Relatives of the detainee claim that Bydanov had no signs of mental disorders and he did not hear any voices.
