The Israeli “Alma” Research Center revealed that the “rare” Israeli attacks in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, aim to deliver a message to Iran, in the context of its attempts to transfer weapons to the West Bank in Palestine.

The center also issued a report in which it said: The attacks also aim to disrupt and harm the Iranian weapons smuggling infrastructure in Syria and Lebanon.

The report added that the attack, which targeted about ten targets belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, was “relatively rare,” both in terms of its extent and previous attacks for which Israel claimed responsibility.

The report quoted multiple sources in Syria, saying that the attack claimed the lives of at least 15 people, including Syrians, Iranians, and Iraqis, including Behrouz Vahidi, an advisor to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, in addition to other leaders.

The sources also explained that the attacks targeted weapons stocks, a headquarters, and a house in Deir ez-Zor, where senior officials of the Revolutionary Guard and Iranian militias were meeting.

The system condemns

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian regime government had called on the countries of the world to condemn the Deir ez-Zor attack and to demand that the United States “end its illegal presence and terrorist military operations” in the region.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry affirmed the regime’s right to “defend itself and hold the aggressor accountable by means stipulated by international law,” and claimed: “It cannot forget those who attack its lands and commit crimes against its people.”

She also added, “The American occupation forces exchange roles with the forces of the Zionist entity, to serve the goals of these two parties that are internationally condemned, and which inflame the situation in the region.”

The statement considered that the United States “appointed itself as the world’s policeman, under pretexts condemned by international law.”

In turn, the US Department of Defense, the Pentagon, on Tuesday denied responsibility for the strikes that targeted Iranian militia positions in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said during a press conference in Washington: “We did not launch air strikes on Syria last night.”

In a related context, multiple sources confirmed that Israel was responsible for air strikes that targeted sites in the Deir ez-Zor Governorate in eastern Syria at dawn yesterday, resulting in deaths, including an Iranian advisor.

Also, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority (KAN) quoted security sources as saying that the Israeli Air Force was behind the raids in Deir ez-Zor.

The sources explained that the attack targeted facilities that were used by the Syrian Special Operations Unit affiliated with the Iranian “Quds Force,” and the Special Operations Department of the Iranian “Revolutionary Guard” Intelligence, headed by Jawad Ghafari.

The sources also indicated that the attack came in response to attempts to smuggle advanced military equipment originating from Iran, which was destined for the West Bank in Palestine.

In this context, two intelligence sources in the region told Reuters that Israeli aircraft launched several raids on two sites inside the cities of Deir ez-Zor and Albukamal, where there are sites for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
