Missile event in Israel on Fri 22nd March 2024
22nd March 2024
We now reported on the IDF airwaves:
new details about the attack and the battle this morning in Binyamin:
1. As early as 5:50, about half an hour after the terrorist's first shot, the drone of the Kerem Ra'im HGMR squad identified the terrorist . The terrorist was detected moving between hiding places and firing accurately from a distance - according to reservists who were involved in the incident.
2. The head of the Talmon settlement was one of the first to jump to the scene, he realized that it was a terrorist trying to carry out an ambush from a distance - and thus prevented forces from arriving without armored vehicles and being exposed to the terrorist's fire. One of the fighters described it this way: "The Wadi Harmia 2 incident was avoided here" (an attack in the second intifada in which a Palestinian sniper killed 10 Israelis).
3. The combat helicopter was ordered to the scene at 6:00. At approximately 6:45 the helicopter arrived at the scene, about 45 minutes later.
From that point on, the HGMR squad, which continued to hold the terrorist from the drone, transmitted to the SQAR an accurate reference of the terrorist's location, and machine-gun fire was indeed carried out in that area, but without damage. The sniper himself did not identify the terrorist.
4. The terrorist dug into his hiding place, hid and at one point maintained a long silence. According to evidence, for more than an hour the fire stopped completely. The terrorist organized himself, made an observation, then shortly after 8:00, opened accurate fire and began sniping .
5. The first report of casualties in the incident came a few minutes after 8:00 a.m., that is, more than two hours after the terrorist had already been identified by the drone, and more than an hour after the radar arrived at the scene. A long and significant period of time in which the event took place without being able to hit the terrorist.
6. Reserve fighters who were involved in the activity on the spot testify that throughout most of the hours of the event, the drone tracked the terrorist and his location, including while the Dvedvan unit surrounded the terrorist in the last part of the event.
It was necessary to change drones from time to time, and in one case the terrorist managed to snipe one of the drones that approached him, and shoot it down .
7. The event ended almost 5 hours later, around 10:00 , when the combat helicopter fired again at the terrorist and managed to hit him with a missile.
An IDF spokesman said in response:
"The incident is still being investigated. The initial details were given to the public in an orderly manner.'
