On 9 March 2024, in Ka Thea village (Sittwe township, Sittwe district, Rakhine state), the No.12 police battalion fired artillery rounds two times at around 11 pm and some of the rounds landed near a mosque in Aung Min Ga Lar ward, hitting and killing at least 5 locals and injuring 10 other locals according to DVB and Narinjara News. Radio Free Asia reported 2 more injured locals died from injuries on 10 March 2024. Other sources, Shwe Phee Myay and Myanmar Now reported that 8 Muslim locals were killed and 12 other Muslim locals were injured. Fatalities coded as 5 for the lowest estimates.
