On 3 March 2024, in Hpasawng town (Hpasawng township, Bawlake district, Kayah state), following a clash between the Myanmar military and resistance forces (coded separately), the military launched airstrikes and dropped a 500lb bomb on the Mway Taw monastery in Kwet Thit ward where 30 IDPs were sheltering and also opened fire with a machine gun. At least five IDPs were killed and more than 20 others including a monk were injured. Over 120 houses were also damaged.
