On 7 March 2024, in Lai Zar town (Waingmaw township, Myitkyina district, Kachin state), artillery shells fired by the Myanmar military based in Par Jawng area landed in the town in the morning. Artillery rounds were fired during a clash between the military and a combined force of the KIA and the PDF (under the NUG) near the town (coded separately). According to the DVB, Kachin News Group, Shwe Phee Myay News Agency and Khit Thit Media, two women from No.2 Wai Kyaing ward were killed and another man injured, while Radio Free Asia and Myanmar Pressphoto Agency reported that a 43-year-old woman and her nine-year-old son and a 43-year-old man were killed. Meanwhile, the BBC News reported that four were killed. Fatalities coded as 2 using the lowest estimates.
