On 29 February 2024, a drone of unknown origin (either Houthi or US depending on sources) opened fire on a fishermen boat in the South Red Sea around 11 miles from Hanish island as the boat came in proximity of the Rubymar general cargo ship. The attack killed 1 fisherman, injured others, and left a number missing.
