KENNEWICK – The Kennewick Police Department reports a 17-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday morning for possession of an explosive or incendiary device.
A concerned student contacted the school resource officer at Southridge High School and reported a student they believed to be in possession of an explosive device. The school resource officer, along with school staff, began working to ensure the safety of everyone at the school. KPD detectives responded to assist in the investigation and to speak with the student.
During the investigation, it became clear that where was no current threat to any area schools and that the device was not on school grounds.
With the assistance of the Richland Police Department Bomb Squad, KPD detectives served a search warrant on the 1400 block of South Harrison Street in Kennewick. Bomb technicians rendered a device safe at the residence and KPD said there is no threat to anyone near the residence.
KPD said detectives have not identified any threats made against any area schools or persons.
The 17-year-old boy was booked into the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Justice Center.
