On 17 February 2024, overnight, international forces (likely US forces, due to their active involvement in conducting airstrikes in Somalia and are supporting the fight against Al Shabaab), in coordination with government security forces (SNA), conducted an airstrike targeting Al Shabaab position in Kurtunwaarey village (Kurtunwaarey, Lower Shabelle). Seven militants were killed, including four senior members.
