On 27 January 2024, in Kawkareik town (Kawkareik township, Kawkareik district, Kayin state), the military conducted airstrikes at 1:12 am, 1:28 am and 5:28 am with Y-12 planes and dropped 60 mm and 81 mm grenades. At around 9 pm, the Myanmar military carried out another airstrike and dropped three 500lb bombs on the town. A high school from Taung Paw area in No.7 ward and some houses in No.1, No.2 and No.7 wards caught fire by the airstrikes. Casualties unknown.
