On 23 January 2024, an IED planted by Al Shabaab detonated, targeting Puntland police officers (assumed off duty) at a tea kiosk/ Khat chewing point frequented in Tuurta area, near Jidka Sodonka road in Bosaso town (Bossaso, Bari). Three policemen were killed and ten others, including two civilians, were injured. Al Shabaab claimed to have killed five police officers and injured others.
