On 26 January 2024, in the rural area of Buena Esperanza corregimiento (Norte de Santander), an explosive device was detonated next to an oil pipeline causing an oil spill in the San Agustin de Los Pozos vereda. The attack is suspected to be related to extortion threats in the past from armed groups that operate in the area (it is likely that the ELN was responsible since the group had threatened the company on 7 January leaving a box that said 'explosives' in the facilities). There were no casualties.
