On 7 December 2023, unknown militants including those with 'links' to unspecified Iraqi security forces targeted the US embassy with 7 mortars or 14 rockets in the Green Zone of Baghdad - Karkh. Only material damages occurred. The strikes originated from near Abu Nawas street in Karadah. The US accused pro-Iran militias of conducting the attack. An unknown number of attackers were arrested the following week.
